CIOs ranked the top reasons they would most likely remove a candidate from consideration for an IT position:


1. Frequent job hopping
2. Too long or too much unnecessary information
3. No context around prior experience
4. Not highlighting strategic thinking and business
5. Overly complicated
6. Bad formatting, sloppiness or typos*
6. Overuse of technical jargon*


1. Speaking negatively about past employers or managers
2. Poor body language, such as no eye contact or a weak handshake
3. Ineffective explanation of career history
4. No clear understanding of the business
5. Unprepared for technical questions
6. Unprofessional dress
